Serving delicious food in the Mid-Ohio Valley since 2007
Dishing out Indian delicacies to the Mid-Ohio Valley for nearly two decades now, Avtar and his wife Parveen have certainly made a name for themselves and their esteemed restaurant, STAR OF INDIA. A traditional Indian arranged marriage brought these two together, meeting one another for the first time on their wedding day back in February of 2000. Unbeknownst to one another, Avtar had always dreamed of following in his father’s footsteps by becoming the chef of his own restaurant while Parveen’s welcoming and warm disposition makes her a natural people person. Once these two puzzle pieces came together, creating a seamless pair, the inception of STAR OF INDIA inevitably began!
After moving to the states, Avtar and Parveen first settled in Columbus to be near family. It didn’t take them long however, to seek out an area that was a little slower paced and bit more community based. As fate had yet to steer them wrong, Avtar and Parveen chose to move the to the MOV to follow their entrepreneurial dreams and raise their children– a beneficial move not only for their family but to the grateful residents the region, as well. “We love this area and the people in it!”, says Parveen.
Though far from his humble beginnings in Punjab, India, Chef Avtar is proud to incorporate traditional Indian ingredients and cooking methods in every plate he prepares. STAR OF INDIA’s customary clay oven yields a number of delicacies including various Tandoori selections, perhaps the most celebrated Indian dish in the world. “But Chicken Tikka Masala is my favorite”, admits Avtar. While chicken, lamb, and seafood are a few of the meatier options available, there is a wide variety of vegetarian dishes, too. “I’m vegetarian and if I had to choose, Mutter Paneer would be my favorite”, says Parveen.
Avtar and Parveen continue fulfill their dreams by raising their three children and providing exquisite homemade Indian food right here in the Mid-Ohio Valley. Their appreciation and gratitude are evident in the quality they provide, both in product and service.
“We’d like to thank our community. They support us and we try our best to take care of them.”
